Proposal for the international competition for “NOT A HOTEL” in Northern Karuizawa, Japan
NOT A HOTEL 北軽井沢 コンペティション応募案 (2024) Best 30 awards



































This work won the TOP 30 in the open competition for NOT A HOTEL held in 2024. We proposed a bridge-like lodging that offers an extraordinary experience on a site at the foot of Mt. Asama, where large volcanic rocks remain scattered. This is a slender, none-column architecture with a total length of 54m. It stands quietly, as if floating among the trees, in the deep forest of Kitakaruizawa. It is long and slender. It floats above the ground. These factors create an architecture that coexists with the natural environment and enjoys the benefits of the environment to the maximum extent possible, without destroying the rich environment of the site as much as possible. This architecture provides visitors with a high-quality living experience.



2024年に開催されたNOT A HOTELの実施コンペにてTOP30に入賞した作品。浅間山麓で大きな火山岩がごろごろと残る敷地に、非日常を味わえるブリッジのような建築を提案した。これは全長54mの細長い無柱の建物である。北軽井沢の深い森の中、木々の間に浮かぶようにひっそりと佇んでいる。細長いこと。地面から浮いていること。これらにより、この敷地にある豊かな環境をできるだけ壊さずに、自然環境と共存し、最大限に環境の恩恵を享受する建築が生まれる。この建築は、訪れる人々に上質な暮らしの体験を提供する。

細長いということは、建物の端から端までのびのびとした自然を感じることができる。雨や雪など天気の変化や季節ごとの移ろい、降り注ぐ光やしっとりとした霧など、最大10m ほどの高低差のある地形に応じて、自然は日々様々に異なる表情を見せてくれる。地面から浮いているということは、土壌を傷めず、同時に自然環境から身を守ることを可能にする。夏は涼しく、冬は暖かい。虫や獣から身を守ることができ、清潔である。自然環境に最大限開きながら、同時に守られていること。この快適性が上質な暮らしを演出してくれる。
